Summer is drawing to a close, isn’t it? The first fallen leaves are beginning to gather along the sides of my favorite shady trails; evenings are growing cooler, and you can catch the scent of wood smoke in the air at dusk; the Pumpkin Spice Latte is back at Starbucks.
Of course, it’s always bittersweet saying goodbye to summer. Strappy sandals replaced by wool socks and waterproof boots. Frozen cocktails make way for frozen windshields, which aren’t nearly as fun. But there’s still plenty to look forward to, and first on my list is my favorite season: fall!
Early autumn is the perfect time for a romantic weekend getaway for two. No more sweltering stay-inside-with-the-AC-on days, but still plenty of sunshine to soak up. And where better to spend a leisurely couple of days than one of America’s favorite small towns?
You may know Woodstock, NY as the home of the famous Woodstock festival of ’69 … in which case, you’d be wrong, because the festival actually took place about an hour south of town. But that doesn’t bother the locals! Woodstock is a friendly, fun town with a vibrant artistic community and distinctly granola vibe, nestled at the foot of the gorgeous Catskill mountains.
So what is there to do in Woodstock? Boutique shopping, an amazingly diverse selection of dining options, live music, theater, hiking, galleries… it’ll be tough to fit everything you want to do in one visit, but that’s okay.
