Romancing the Pomegranate on New Years Eve

“When the New Year turns, a pomegranate is smashed on the floor in front of the door to break it open and reveal seeds symbolizing prosperity and good fortune. The more seeds, the more luck….”
I grew up with this ritual every year, always practiced by my grandmothers in Istanbul, Turkey, the pomegranate seeds bursting in the entryway of our homes. I recently found out this might be a Greek originated ritual. Today, I still try to keep with this tradition year after year, both at home and at my place of business. This is why at Room Temp by Moshe, we have decided that our new theme of the month is ” Prosperity”. But I am fully aware material possession and fortune is not enjoyed unless shared. So I hope you welcome 2014 with that very special someone, with or without a smashed pomegranate!…
PS: Why go purchase a single pomegranate? Grab a few extra, so you can create the most sensuous New Years Eve menu & cocktails.
