Seduction Meals Exclusive Interview: Moshe Aelyon Part II

As someone who makes a living creating drama, beauty and memorable events for his clients, we turn to Moshe Aelyon for his take on what makes a successful Seduction Meal. Moshe – event planner, interior designer, travel host, and publisher of Room Temp by Moshe was born in Turkey and grew up in a culture that whole-heartedly celebrates cuisine, history, architecture, hospitality and the art of living. He grew up in a family that embraced life sensually, generously and elegantly. They have been and continue to be the inspiration in all that he does. Seduction Meals shines a spotlight on Moshe Aelyon in Part II of our exclusive interview.

Seduction Meals: If you could invite six people to dinner who would you want at your table? And where would you entertain?

Moshe Aelyon: I would invite all my favorite American and Turkish authors; such as David Sedaris, Jhumpa Lahiri, Orhan Pamuk, Augusten Burroughs, Zulfu Livaneli, and Aret Vartanyan. A Room Temp Aegean menu consumed for long hours laced with their words, thoughts and humor would be incredible. I would love to have them on an island in Greece, in a backyard of a villa overlooking the Aegean Sea. Some great music with tall pine trees in the background and maybe a swim before breakfast… of course no bathing suits required!

Seduction Meals: What is the most important part of creating a romantic meal for two? What is your Seduction Meal?

Moshe Aelyon: The most important is the thought that goes into it. To understand whom you are serving and to be able to push all the right buttons. It’s like gift giving in the sense that you think about what they will appreciate receiving.

My perfect Seduction Meal is making a hassle free menu and creating a progressive dinner a-la-chef’s tasting menu. A romantic soiree where perhaps the amuse bouche is on the floor by fireplace, then the hors d’ourves served casually in kitchen and then dinner in the candle-lit dining room. It moves with the mood you are trying to create; for me it is always helpful if I have an ethnic theme in mind.

It’s important to be honest with presentation and present a “package” of sorts that will evoke sensations such as serving an Asian inspired meal and having chopsticks and maybe a ginger scented candle. Just be relaxed, prepare ahead of time and include a small surprise, a meaningful gesture.

A specific dish that always steals the show would be a Risotto with Truffle Oil. I love it served with succulent Sea Scallops, maybe with a Garlic Citrus Marmalade. But keep it small portioned, I like to seduce with small plates as it gives you multiple sensations and tastes.

I’m a big believer in presentation so even if you have to include a store bought cheese plate, dress it up with lavender honey or toasted pistachios. You can do a lot with store bought, just plate it and show your artistry! Dessert has to be part of your big finale “Pillow Talk”. And hopefully that is when Room’s Temp will rise!
